join the yarn club!

so, starting January 3 (because the 1st is a sunday and we're closed sunday and monday) there is a special yarn club available. it costs $35.00. you get a tote bag (which will have the year on it). when you bring this tote bag to the shop, you get 10% off your total purchase (excluding wheels and wheel accessories and items on consignment). additionally, all yarn that comes in will go in a member's only area for a week. members will be able to shop there, getting first crack at any yarn that arrives.

then, the coolest bit is this: during your birthday week, bring the tote bag and you will get 25% off everything you can cram into it (only on items that are discountable). also, on your birthday you will get a small free gift!

it's going to be pretty neat! you should think about it. (also it makes a perfect gift for a knitter/crocheter).

making plans for Handcrafted in the Hills: a Fiber retreat!

so, we're starting to make plans for HHF! yay!

we will be having a different set of hands on activities for Saturday, and we're seriously considering extending it to the Thursday before, so that we can have friday and saturday both to do stuff.

we'll be hand dyeing sock yarn, dyeing fibers and doing some fiber prep as well as needle felting.

the likely cost will be around $150.00 per person. this will include meals and a bed to share with someone! we'll have a "shop" at the event so that people will be able to buy things that are needed. we'll be spinning and knitting and crocheting and such all weekend. it's like an adult sleep over!

make plans to attend.

Handcrafted in the Hills is coming!!

We have been busy little sheep here at the shop.

We have been putting together a Fiber Retreat weekend for you!

We have had a generous invitation by Mark at Sunrise Guest Ranch in Edgemont, SD to see his organically raised sheep and witness a spring shearing! So to make this an acceptable outing, we decided to make a weekend of it, offering classes and spending the night(s) at his GORGEOUS ranch!

(Yes.. that is a Ram standing on the porch. He likes to participate, in everything-- including our tour.)

This is the Guest Ranch Lodge. There are plenty rooms for us to stay in, a HUGE kitchen, and more sheep than we know what to do with. See...
There is a Spinning Wheel in the background there.. He and his Wife are just waiting for us to come, spin, and enjoy his fiber!

Mark's major shearing will be in April,
but he promised to keep a few of the nicest for us to see and feel, still on the sheep. He will shear them for our retreat. Prior sheared Fleeces will be available for purchase when we arrive.

The bonus is that May is the middle of
the normal lambing season. Mark is planning a wagon ride for us to
see some of the new baby lambs.

Handcrafted in the Hills: a Fiber Weekend will take place at Sunrise Guest Ranch in Edgemont, SD on May 13-15.

Early Registration is open now.

The weekend begins at 4pm on Friday to get you settled in your rooms and get to knitting, crocheting, and
spinning as soon as possible!
Classes offered all day Saturday
  • Dartmore dying
  • Needle Felting
  • Tunisian Crochet
  • Colorwork (what kind TBD)

so... what's the plan?

Over the next few months i'm hoping to add spinning wheels... I'm still considering what is the best brand to add, and am doing a bit of research and contacting companies.

We'll have new yarn in for spring in February.  can't wait.  so....what's on your needles?

adieu and good luck

i am tempted to type lots of trite "all good things come to an end" kind of comments, but i'll try to restrain myself. :-)

for those of you who have been with C. R. Yarn from the beginning, you know that it has been a partnership. that Candis and I decided to open this shop together, and we were going to run it together as well. In September after lots of planning Candis moved to Eugene OR. after lots of thinking on both our parts we decided to part ways. i am in the process of buying Candis out of her share of the business and the shop will be just mine then, i suppose.

i will miss candis's company and advice and number genius. I hope that her move takes her the places that she wants to go. so, adieu and good luck!

tomorrow--what's next for the shop!
